Although there is not much of a Chinese Community downtown today, their legacy remains in the foods we enjoy, the stories we retell, and the families that continue on


Together, my peers and I wanted to take a step further and transport the audience back in time. We established Providence Garden, an immersive space allowing the audience to reencounter the essence of the Chinese restaurants integral to downtown Providence.

To authentically recreate the ambiance, we incorporated audio that evokes the atmosphere of a traditional Chinese American restaurant, featuring voices recounting their experiences at these esteemed diners. Additionally, we offer fortune cookies containing anecdotes from the customers of these establishments as souvenirs for the audience to take upon leaving the space.
